Club History...

The Rocky Rod & Gun Club was organized by a small group of local shooters and outdoors enthusiasts, and incorporated as a non-profit society in the fall of 1969.

With a lot of hard work and donated labor, equipment and materials the original members constructed a shooting range on about 1260 acres of land leased from the Province about 6.5 km west of Rocky Mountain House.

From the 40 members in 1971, the Club has grown to 737 members in 2008.

The Club caters solely to the shooting sports, and is now almost all "Gun", and very little "Rod". The fact that about half of Club Members in 2008 were from outside the Rocky Mountain House trading area attests to the quality of the Range, and the wide variety of shooting disciplines accommodated.

In addition to casual use by the Members and the organized shoots, the Range is by Cadets, Law Enforcement Agencies, Canadian Forces, Hunter Training, and private groups.

The Club's Range is now home to the Alberta Frontier Shootists, who built a world-class Cowboy Action facility at the Range.

Remember the three rules for any shooting sport:

  1. Be Safe
  2. Have Fun
  3. Repeat 1 & 2
