Details:

This is a fun house league designed as more of a social event than a serious competition–while we want to provide a way for members to play formal games of trap, score and compare to other shooters, getting people out to the range to enjoy shooting is what this is all about.

It is for members to meet members they know, members they don’t know and shoot together.  It will also be an opportunity for new shooters to see what is available and be helped out by more experienced shooters.

The League will involve shooting 50 targets per week over an 8 week span for a maximum total of 400 targets.

A final competition will be held on June 21st after the regular league shots are taken taht date, with the top 5 shooters followed by a Smokie and Hotdog Roast for all participants in the League.

Members can register on the Club Events Page per week, and it is not required to register for all 8 weeks–for example members may only want to register for scoring on a handful out of 8 of the weeks, and this is acceptable.  We will be doing total scores for the duration of the League, but we will also be logging average scores per round for those shooters who cannot make all 8 weeks consecutively, as well as Weekly Scoring charts

The RRGC shotgun Range K is a great place to shoot shotgun: whether you are new to shotgunning, or an experienced shooter who wants to hone your skills. We will do our best to ensure new shooters will be squadded with more seasoned shooters, who will happily dispense good advice, and cheer on progress. We all remember starting out, so there’s no judgement when new members come out with questions and missing a few targets.  We know those questions and lost targets are ultimately about learning. The league provides a relaxed place to work on a consistent setup, mount, and move, so you can carry a solid foundation on your next trip to the Trap, Sporting clay, Skeet range, or duck blind.

NOTE: All shotgun ranges will still be open for non-league shooting but please be considerate of the league shooters and everyone can join in even if not League shooting.

Registration will help us plan but we will be ready to receive drop-ins on the Thursdays and Saturdays of each league we are running the League.

Trap League Rules (The fine print)

  • Arrive as early as possible on the designated days and start time.  Last League round will be shot 30 minutes before the end of the scheduled time each Thursday and Saturday.
  • Club will take payment of $15.00 to cover 2 rounds of 25 targets and squad the shooters.
  • All shooting will be from the 16-yard line.  Puller will announce all missed targets with LOST and a zero on the score sheet.  Hit targets will be an X or a /.
  • Scoring Discrepancies must be addressed immediately. If there are any questions as to what the puller has called, shooting must be stopped and addressed at that time. In case of a disagreement on call, the puller will poll the group and that decision is final. Any issues with a call will not be addressed if or after play has continued.
  • At completion of each round the puller will read out the scores and everyone agrees that the scores are correct and understand that all scores are final. The Puller will sign off the score sheet.
  • Individual scores will be added to a Master score sheet.
  • Any broken targets or misfires will be re-shot.
  • If any shooter is unable to make some of the scheduled League days, they will be allowed to make-up/pre-shoot extra rounds provided they are registered for the week they are/have missed. For example, a registrant can shoot 4 rounds after a missed week to make-up missed rounds from the week they missed.
  • Any scores that are missing at the end of Trap League from an individual will be averaged. An absentee score is computed as follows: The individual’s aggregate weekly average minus 2 birds.  The final calculated number will be placed into each blank spot in the individual’s own 8-week scores.
  • At the end of the Trap League, shooter scores will be added up and the top 5 shooters will have a shoot off on June 21 to name the Champ.
  • It is each shooter’s responsibility to watch the Club calendar in case of a cancellation due to weather or issues with a volunteer unable to attend.
  • Your Safety is important at RRGC. All range safety rules of the Club remain in force to keep everyone safe and make your experience the best possible:
    • Eye and Hearing Protection is required by everyone on the shooting field.
    • Do not load the gun until it is your turn to shoot. Only one shell is allowed in the gun at a time for singles trap.
    • Always keep the muzzle of your gun down range.
    • Action Open: Always carry a gun with action open.
    • Always use target loads, shot sizes 7 ½ to 9 shot. If you are in question about load, please ask.
  • Shooters are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanship like manner. Any conduct such as physical abuse, verbal abuse or threats of any type directed to shoot personnel, other competitors, or any other person, whether on or off the shooting line may result in being asked to leave the club and also possible disciplinary follow up action from the Club itself.

Also note, the League is a work in progress and can be tweaked as we learn and grow.
