CLEARWATER COUNTY, ALBERTA – The membership of Rocky Rod and Gun Club has approved the construction of a 1612m (one mile) rifle range at a meeting held January 5th. 

“We are grateful for the support of our members, community partners and the Government of Alberta’s Active Community Initiative.  With the addition of the long-range discipline, Rocky Rod and Gun Club will rank among the premier facilities in Alberta and western Canada” says club president Eugene Gervais. 

Site preparation is now underway with completion expected this summer.   Interested stakeholders may follow construction updates and related news in this thread.

  1. March 1 Update:

    Construction is underway. Due to frequent heavy equipment movement, there are long term closures on Ranges I (archery trail), Range J and Range K (Shotgun) from March 6th until further notice.

    2. Construction Update:

    Ground work with heavy equipment is nearly complete. We remain on time, on budget and without incident.

      Other Updates:

  3. As directed by all three levels of government, we are required to fence our disposition and erect “no trespassing” signage. We will begin clearing and erecting a high-tensile wire fence around the dry areas of the disposition in April. This will be followed with floating signage in the wet areas.

    Our membership has approved a noise management policy. Starting this year, the Club will conduct noise assessments using qualified and independent experts. This evidence-based approach will help us demonstrate our compliance with regulations.

  4. Ground work has been completed, and we will be re-seeding the disturbed areas with native grasses this month.

    We do have some large steel target frames that require placement via helicopter. We expect this to occur the week of May 12th and will be completed in a single day.

  5. Air operations were completed today to hoist the large steel target frames into position. The shooting building is nearing completion and is awaiting installation of shooting benches and the floor.
